Though I really enjoyed this book, it should be mentioned that the VHS cover art depicted within is from the UK. Being from the US, I did not recognize most of the art so this was not the nostalgia jam I was looking forward to. Nevertheless, this book is so well put together with each page showing full front, back and spine of the covers. I really hope that someone makes a book featuring American VHS cover art using this same format. It's a fantastic journey through a library of exciting, fantastic and lurid films with box art so enticing you'll want to take them to the checkout counter and rent them today!

 There is hardly anything to dislike about this unique book. Unique hardly describes it. If you are into 80's cinema, VHS or Beta, or anything relating to the 80's, this book is for you! It's 80's retro eye candy on steroids! Every high quality page is packed with visuals that take you to a familiar past. The nostalgia factor alone is worth the price of the book. This one sits proudly in my office! Please see the included video for a brief overview of this fantastic book.

If you love VHS artwork, buy this immediately. What makes this book special is that the majority of it is 1) very rare VHS titles with beautiful and often hilarious artwork and 2) if you grew up in the US like me, a lot of covers are burned into your memory, these are all UK VHS covers so you get to see alternate designs for films, the alternate artwork for "Troll" is especially hilarious. The layout and design of the book is beautiful and the VHS covers span all genres, comedy, horror, action, thriller, ect. Tom Hodge the author also does a little homework too and provides the distributors, years, alternate titles, and artists of the VHS covers to go with each title displayed. Tom Hodge is one of the great up and comers in the film poster art business and is always in demand, you may have seen his original work for posters to such films as "Hobo with a Shotgun" and "Almost Human", he has a very distinguished style. Buy this book before it's out of print, much like the only other previous VHS cover-art book "Portable Grindhouse."

Amazing. As someone born right at the dawn of the VHS era, many of my happy memories from childhood are going to the local video store to rent a movie or a nintendo game, and since that was before AV Club or Rotten Tomatoes you had no way of knowing if a movie was crap, so the crappiest movies (and during the straight to VHS craze there were MANY crappy movies) competed for attention by having the most exciting, outrageous covers, leading to a fairly unique form of art and presentation. This book does such a good job of collecting amazing cover art from this era. The nostalgia is so hard it hurts. I collect a lot of photo and art books, and this has immediately become one of my favorites in my collection.

I got this book as inspiration for my art -- a handy reference which would keep me from having to dig through my VHS collection to find a muse -- What I got was so much more than that. The thing I wasn't expecting and ended up loving was being able to read the back of each box! It made me remember what it was like being a kid in my local mom and pop video store. The fact that the art depicted in the book are from video releases in the UK made it that much more exciting to me because I've hardly ever seen any of these covers before. Also, I'm pretty sure that Graham Humphreys is my new favorite artist. Thank you Thomas Hodge for curating such a fascinating book!

Lots and lots of classic (and obscure) cover art, most are the English versions (and added plus for a Yank like myself.) Reproduction of the art is first class. as always, would have liked to see even more.

Truly enjoyable, just reading the back cover synopses, the filmmakers thought they were making Star Wars .... But they're not.Great Artwork, though, it was like 80s thrash or glam records the covers were misleadingRecommended

This is a fantastic book of cover art put together by Tom Hodge, a man responsible for some of my favorite movie posters (he's responsible for the Hobo with a Shotgun poster) so you already know he's the perfect person to put this together. I absolutely love this book. My only gripe is the binding feels a bit weak. I'm a bit scared to open it more than a few times. Could just be my copy but even if the binding wears out I'll still love this book.

as expected, some pieces not easily translated into written form. many are repetitive and pedantic. there are about 4 good songs in this book

Arrived on time. Large easy read music sheets. Purchased for a friend who normally plays only classical.

These pieces are very hard to find on any compilation cd's, so it's been hard to learn and play them with any confirmation of accuracy. I like to play songs I'm familiar with, and hearing them at least once on cd would help. I can't seem to find a corresponding cd sampler that reflects this book. Maybe one doesn't exist? At any rate, there are certainly plenty of other Windham Hill piano songs I'd have rather learned that are a lot more popular and accessible.

Love the sampler. I sound just like the artists on Windham Hill! I would recommend this collection. Buy it now.

Good quality paper. Good size font. Nice arrangements. Good choice of Windham Hill artists. Very happy with my purchase.

Some of the featured artists in this sampler include Philip Aaberg, Scott Cossu, Liz Story and Barbara Higbie. I was unfamiliar with almost all of the music in this sampler. Although there is a mix of styles, I think there is a strong jazz influence in at least half of the songs. The rhythms can be a challenge to master, and some of the songs suggest improvisation. Although I tend to prefer impressionistic pieces, some of the songs in this sampler have grown on me and can be quite fun to play. My favorite pieces include: "Engravings" by Ira Stein, "High Plains" by Philip Aaberg, and "Solid Colors" by Liz Story.

What a wonderful selection music from some of Windham Hill's most popular pianists. The pieces are enormously varied. Some are complex and technically quite challenging, others simple and offering more immediate mastery. The chosen pieces reflect the styles of each artist and can be used as a spring board to follow up each of the pianists in more detail. Two of my favourites are the beautifully whimsical and meditative "In This Small Spot" Tim Story and gentle, rythmic "Purple Mountain" Scott Cossu. As a Windham Hill fan, I have a CD collection containing most of these pieces and it is incredibly satisfying to be able to recreate the magic yourself. Not all pieces will appeal to all tastes, but the challenge of such variety is seductive and should provide plenty of pleasurable hours playing.

Windham Hill Artists are almost always a notch above the rest(ie. Narada, etc.) The feel, rhythms, originality, imagination, and overall composition can't be matched elsewhere. I've been a piano composer for 10 years and find the beauty of this music unforgettable. This music is well worth discovering and exploring further!!!

One is never clear, despite heavy assertions, why he should be considered a cut above the rest of the great innovators in the game theory field the way Einstein is in the field of relativity. This is not to doubt Van Neumann's leading role or superiority but the book somehow never substantiates enough despite amusing anecdotes and many tales involving him.On the key game theories, the book excels. For those more interested, the treatment would appear superficial. But few who are not experts won't walk away with some amazing insights. The real life connections are good. And the treatment is neither too simplistic nor excessively technical.For anyone uninitiated on the subject, the book is a great start despite all the imperfections.

I have had the original book on game theory by John Von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern which is 600 + pages of dense math for many years. This book is more about the people involved with enough math to make the theories understandable. If you are into dense math you can start here and go on. If not you will probably start and stop here which is quite ok.

I do not have enough words of praise for this book. It so masterfully weaves together numerous areas of human interest. Who knew that game theory could be applied so broadly?The book is centered largely around the use of game theory during the cold war, and the life of John Von Neuman, but makes numerous other connections. For example, the parallel to the economic dilemma of "the Free Rider Problem" is discussed. Cooperation, as an evolutionary necessity, is talked about. The psychology of decision making is a focus. Most interesting was the connection that different styles of playing has to ones political views.I found myself pausing every few pages to absorb and integrate what was written into my world view. This is not a book that merely entertains -- it is a book that influences.

Excellent book. Well written and very interesting intro to Game Theory, its genesis and how it applies to realms as diverse as economics, biology and the Cold War. Learning about John von Neumann and a few of the Game Theory creators was as entertaining as it was insightful.

The essay is very rich of information about the prisoner's dilemma. This game is similar to other typical evens of the Greek logics.But this reconstruction is very large, in fact the first applications are by von Neumann in relation to the militar context.The resolution of this game found easy applications in the II world war.Next, we observe particularly the Axerold contribute, who tried an algorithm for the solution, without particular subcess.The game model is standard, but we can apply a recursive action for having several steps.

Only because the book was somewhat of a letdown. but the physical product was good.

If you use a computer - you owe so much to Jon Van Neumann. I confess we called number theory mystery math in university. No longer - I understand it now. This little book does a great job on the subject. The story of van Neumann is fascinating, then you have the explanation of many games like the prisoner's dilemma and how they apply to nuclear proliferation. Many world leaders should read this book, but of course politics and ego overshadow logic and rationality. Well worth the read, but this is not a trivial book , but it will help anyone in negotiations.

Wide ranging and at times a bit meandering, but nevertheless an excellent introduction to Game Theory and its significance in the recent past and present. (Hint: It was yuuuge).

This was such a great series! I fell in love with the cast of characters and it was nice seeing the main character, Holly, grow into a strong badass heroine she was always meant to be! If you love fast paced action, humor, wonderful characters and a story with surprising twists, then this series is for you. Definitely at the top as one of my fav series!This collection contains the first four books in the Holly Drake Job series.Final Rating: 5 Stars

I will thoroughly enjoyed the plot with the Shadow Coalition but had a hard time with the wimpiness of the bad guys. The ineptitude of the Hands who are the number two level bad guys in letting Holly get away from a multi planet coalition was a let from the overall quality of the plot.

I just love this read Holly is a fantastic character. Stands up for her friends. And does her best to take down the bad guys. The characters she has on her team are just as awesome. It has battles. Alot of adventure twists and turns. This is one of those books that definitely belongs on a best seller. I can't wait to see what the next book has to offer. This read had me from page one and I didn't want to put it down to sleep. There in a different kind of world. Unlike ours. This Authors imagination is totally awesome. I hope this makes it to the big screen. A must read.Shauna Joesten

I loved the entire series and really enjoyed reading the way it had many twists and turns .Normally I mostly read military genre but I thought the series is great and they should keep going just like the Harrigan Series by Weber . Definitely a good one to relax with by the pool.

Story of abuse and corruption, could not wade through it...... Not my cup of tea
