One may be mine from years ago, so rather than repeat it, let me just say, I’ve been reading True crime books for almost 40 years now , and this book and author rank among the best. The story is interesting, you get to know all the characters well , and it’s written in the old-style way that true crimes should all be done. Not written to give the killers any glory , but to honor the memory of the victims and pay respect to their families. It also teaches you about the dedication of a police officer and how he made promises to the victims that he’d find the ones responsible . You cannot find any better than this if looking for true crime.

This is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. I read it first about 20 years ago. I let a friend borrow and never got it back. I was glad to find it again. Bought it and re-read. I still think the author is one of the best, ever. Wonderful description of terrible event. Enjoyable and fascinating account of a terrible event by the worse among us. You will find it hard to put down once you start. The photo is where it happened.

In the park, the teenagers met with their brutal, untimely death at the hands of David Spence and his friends.Truman Simons, a veteran police office, took the case personally and worked dilligently to obtain the proof needed to convict the three men who murdered these innocent teens.The twists and turns of this book make it hard to put down. From the intial investigation to the prosecution of Jordanian born Muneer Deeb for his role in the deaths of the teens (and, yes, I do believe he was guilty but walked on techinicality), the book is full of details as you walk side by side with investigators as they seek justice.The only disappointing aspect of this book is that little information was available regarding the third victim Raylene Rice. However, the author makes note that her family essentially decided to deal with the death of Raylene by distancing themselves from the other victims' families, investigators and prosecutors. At one point, Stowers even writes that Raylene, because of her families actions, almost became somewhat of an afterthought to the public.This is an excellent book. One I'm sure that will keep you reading, with never a dull moment!

Book I've read by this author, wait I should say devoured by this author. It's been awhile since I have come across a true crime book that reads like a well written suspense novel that keeps you glued to the story from beginning to end. It's an equal to THE ONION FIELD, SMALL SACRIFICES, IN COLD BLOOD and THE TWELVE OF NEVER. I have a feeling I will have finished all of Carlton Stowers books before the end of this month.

Carlton Stowers knows how to write true crime stories! I've read every true crime book he's ever written & find myself so lost inside the stories that I feel as if I'm actually there! Careless Whispers is best! I lived in Waco, Texas where this horrible crime took place & Stowers wrote this true story of the Lake Waco Triple Murders down to the last detail making it mesmerizing in every way!

i read this book about 25 years ago and didn't remember much of the story other than I loved the book. This writer has a gift for telling a compelling story, building the character development and keep the reader engaged. Reading it the second time, I loved it again. The buildup of the crime, the investigation and the bringing this to trial was highly detailed. Once the trail began, details were a little light; however, I highly recommend if you enjoy true crime.

I am from Waco, TX and also lived in the Methodist Home. I was to young to remember this, but it still pretty scarey. The book was written well and I loved all the details. Good read and I could not put it down. Very sad what happened so long ago. As a teenager I also cruised the the lake circle never realizing that a murder had taken place.

(Thus the low rating.) A little more examination of the context and comparison with other passages would have made the true meaning clear.In 1 Tim 4:8 in context has nothing to do with physical exercise in the sense the author is talking about. Paul is referring to those who think following legalistic teaching will benefit them spiritually.In Eph 5:18 Paul could have easily said "don't drink wine" instead he said don't get drunk. Wine in the New Testament was an intoxicating beverage. That's why it made them drunk! But the only admonition against drinking is if it causes a brother to stumble. The same which is said for meat.From the book: ""Thou shalt not worship any idols." Food and alcohol can easily become idols in this world." Really! The same can be said for your spouse, your child, your car, your church, and just about anything else you can name.I'll leave it other readers to check out the rest of the Scripture references.Junk food is bad. I agree. Drinking alcohol can be very problematic. I agree. Taking care of the body is good. I agree. But please don't misuse Scripture to make the point.

I was thrilled to find this book! I don't think there is nearly enough discussion on this subject. He uses scripture passages in ways I had not thought of and really gave me a lot of food for thought (if you'll pardon the pun). He doesn't shy away from some controversial topics either, like the use of alcohol. He explains his beliefs Biblical, but in a rational tone that's scholarly, as opposed to sounding like a damning zealot.It's not a long book, but it's full of thought, and it's helped me as a springboard for deeper research. Very interesting and I recommend it.

Very, very basic. I think "juvenile" was the word I used when my husband asked me what I thought of it. Only took maybe 30 minutes to read it. It doesn't discuss or explain anything, just basically - this is what the Bible says about .... So just Go read your Bible instead. If you want health advice from a Christian perspective look for a different book. You won't get much out of this.

Intriguing story. Author does a good job keeping the readers attention throughout with great detail in every chapter. There is also much to learn from it. Christian book lovers should enjoy this one.

OK as far as it goes. A brief intro to the intellectual processes involved in designing a fantasy world map. For the price, i would have liked more. For example, a more extensive list of software, and some work-in-progress illustrations showing how a map can be built up step by step, and the consequences of making one choice rather than another.The book is also a mechanism for marketing the author's software. I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is including a link inside the book which doesn't work, also having to search through many webpages for over ten minutes to find out what technical platform the software requires (it is Windows).There are also some minor typographic issues.This book has good bones and there is nothing wrong with the basic approach it takes to the topic. The problem is, it's a bit rough and ready, and ultimately I was disappointed by what I got for the money.

I have been a fantasy and science fiction cartographer for almost 25 years. This was a very simple read, lots of whitespace, done in a casual, hands-on folksy manner with examples. This is for the absolute beginner Gamer or Fantasy novelist who is curious or wants to design a basic map, but has no idea how or where to start. If you are already using Gimp, Photoshop, Campaign Cartographer 3(+), Hexographer, or Inkarnate, you can skip this text as you already have the tools this author recommends. Not really in depth, the author covers the basics of continent outline, climate bands, groundcover very basic tectonics, more or less at an early high school level of overview. So if you have a teenage child starting out as a GM, this would be an okay starter. If you are an aspiring novelist looking for a really deep worldbuilding resource, this is not that sort of in-depth treatment. It is nice that the author goes step by step, with some color graphics examples showing how to do a basic continent, some forests, cities, mountains, and rivers, with Campaign Cartographer at a very very introductory level, ending with a very simple map. The author is also encouraging, and seems to be actively promoting the community, via twitter / social media.

As a major worldbuilder for my novels, I have always strived to learn more and to try and be as professional as possible in creating worlds. I picked this book up as an affordable resource because you never know when you might learn something new.Overall the book is fairly decent. There is a lot of “common sense” stuff, but it is stuff I have seen other authors overlook or make mistakes on, so it is good not to assume everyone knows the basics.While it does seem to be geared more for amateur worldbuilders, there is also some decent info in here for more experience folks too. The section about wind patters and climate bands was very enlightening, which is why I decided to give the book the round up to four stars.The loss of stars, though, is because there were some “absolutes” given as rules by the author that are inaccurate. The one that bugged me most was along the lines of “rivers merge, they don’t divide”. While that is generally true, river bifurcation is possible with the right conditions. I actually researched river bifurcation before having a river split in the world I created for my Chadash Chronicles. I think it would behoove the author to do some research on river bifurcation and flesh out his section on rivers with that more complete and accurate information.I found the above doubly irritating because right after saying that, on the author’s own example map, he has a river split TWICE before reaching the ocean. The irony of that flub cost a star.The other half star came from his absolute that “forests can’t be next to deserts”. That also is not true. There are a number of real world examples of this, although generally this is because the desert is overtaking forestland. In fact, the Sahara used to be lush green land, according to some scientists. So while desert nexts to forests are not the norm, again some more fleshing out of the exceptions and conditions under which this general rule might be violated would make this a much stronger, better, and more complete book.All in all I would recommend it to beginning worldbuilders as for the most part it does have some good general rules to make more realistic worlds/maps. With the fleshing out I mentioned above (perhaps in a Second Edition) this could go from good to fantastic as far as worldbuilding resources go.

The information is just enough to make sure water doesn't flow uphill or other nonsensical features of some fantasy maps. However, he could have used a better editor. There are numerous word choice errors, e.g. parameter for perimeter, and the like.

I'll give the book credit that it does have some useful perspectives like tectonic plates and climate implications on the realism of a world map. However, This book fell way short of my expectations. There is no good step by step DETAILS of actually MAKING the map itself. For example, I'm looking at including a forest and desert region on my map, what icons or graphics should I use to represent these? Nothing even close to that is in this book. In fact there aren't ANY GOOD examples of actual fantasy maps. And definitely not enough information for someone to actually sit down and draw a good map. The book gives you tips for THINKING about what a good map should have in generalities, but in my mind it really missed the mark as far as an actual Guide for map making. I also purchased "How to draw Fantasy Art & RPG Maps" by Jared Blando which I found to be much more helpful. Although it still lacked the samples I'm looking for like a legend / sample of different forest types, landscapes, and various ways of drawing certain features. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Fantasy Map Making for people who want to actually draw their own maps. You can get all this same high level info off of a few youtube videos and free online reading.

Just got my copy and it's great. My 7 year old (girl) couldn't wait to see what was on every page and is already picking activities to do. Truth is I'm learning some new things too. This book is a must for every 'maker kid' and parent who wants to be right there with them!

My son is always getting into one craft or another, but he has been disappointed that the crafts aren't "real". This book has a good mix of real-world toy-making advice as well as a few well thought out projects. I was surprised how easy the cookie cutters were to make and how well the pop-bottle monster worked.

This is a great book, really for all ages. Terrifically detailed with simple instructions on creating very unique DIY projects for yourself or with your kids. I found many of these games and toys have an updated nostalgia of toys or projects I had when I was a child and can now be shared with my children and their grandchildren. This book will provide hours, days and months of great activities and projects everyone can easily create, invent and enjoy! Mr. Knetzger has created a real winning formula with all of his toy-making experience and I am so pleased he has shared his ideas and projects with the world!

This definitely can be a fun book for adults, as well as children and grandchildren. I didn't think anyone on planet Earth still remembered the "FREE..actual working ATOM SUB" that came in boxes of Rice Krispies in 1955. But here it is, on pages 53-54. Instead of U-238, it was powered by small amounts of baking soda, and it was tiny. But it would sink in my bathwater, rise to the surface, magically turn sideways to burp its air bubble, and sink once more, only to rise again and burp again. Just the sort of experience a young boy would remember--and cherish--for decades! The author shows how to do the same trick with a "sub" made from a potato. And his book contains 39 other imaginative projects, ranging from games, toys and steampunk safety goggles to glowing tiki lamps and a Japanese yakitori grill. If you like working with tools and teaching youngsters how to use tools properly and safely, this book can guide you to you many interesting opportunities. Also, the author shows how to work with a variety of materials to do casting and molding, plus thermoforming of plastics. Definitely don't just hand this book to your kids. Roll up your sleeves, get out your tools, and gather your helpers--fun can be had by all while working and learning together. The author notes: "Many of these projects are spin-offs and examples from my work as a professional toy and game designer. Some projects are super simple; some are more involved. No expensive or highly technical tools are needed, just basic tools found in any garage or hobby bench. No specialized skills are required either." He does add an important caution: "These projects are not for unattended children." And there is another noteworthy statement that sums up this book's range of possibilities: "You might make some of these projects with a kid, for a kid...or just for yourself." However, not all the items in the book will have parts from things floating around a typical house. For example, the sand stampers involve flip-flops and "Sugru" (which was not an item familiar to me; it turns out it's a moldable glue that turns to rubber. This actually game in handy in fixing the broken shelf in my fridge [not covered in this book]).There are QR codes that can be scanned with a smartphone t see demos of completed projects in action. They even included a flipbook animation for one of the projects.Some of the projects are pretty involved. While Knetzger says they don't involve specialized equipment, not everyone has a soldering iron! Individuals who like the Maker Faire or who enjoy tinkering with electronics will likely appreciate this book. It definitely is *not* for unsupervised kids, but there are lots of opportunities for kids and parents to work together.
