The way that the Sidemen wrote this book is exactly like how they collaborate in a Sidemen video, which is really funny, and that's why I'm such a big fan of them. I'm really impressed by the way they present their contents, using the 'Sidemen way'.

I started watching the sidemen on YouTube recently this year and have loved their videos since. I heard that came out with a book about them and how their careers began and what not. I almost didn't get it out of fear that I wouldn't finish the book. I finally went for it and bought it on the kindle version, and finished it within a matter of days. I absolutely loved their book and think they did an amazing job on it. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

Meh. The book has it's funny moments, but the text is all over the place in an attempt to be fun. I don't really like this format that much because it makes it harder to read. I bought the book because I thought it would be about the sidemen outside of You Tube. It kinda is, but there is a large section of the book dedicated to FIFA. I don't mind watching the FIFA videos as much as I mind reading about them.

It was completely entertaining. Loved every minute of it, and the pictures really push it over the top for me.

Bought this book for my 12 year old daughter. So nice to see her read and not have her face in an Ipad all day. She hasn't stopped thanking me for buying her this book.

Greate book it is an easy read. I finished it in about 3 days. I love the sidemen so i had to get it the pictures their personal bios the funny add ons everything is done perfect it kept me intrigued and entertained throught the whole thing. Great job!!!

And it's neat to see what they pick when they're forced to compile the components that THEY think make them who they are.

A nice compendium of 56 "camp ground" songs, hymns and spirituals from the late 19th Century. Tunes include those still fairly well known ("Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," "An Unclouded Day"; "The Church in the Wildwood" [aka "The Little Brown Church in the Vale"]), and those nearly forgotten ("Methodist Pie," "Give Me the Roses Now"). Useful if only for the tunes, not to mention the religious and folkloric value. Paperback.

Not very pleased with this product, but it's my fault for not noticing the dimensions (it's the size of a pew hymnal, but the music font is light and small). Also the description points out that the songs are melody-only (vocal) plus basic guitar chords. Not suitable for a pianist. Friends, you do get what you pay for.

I love the "Fake Book" arrangements for these old, beloved hymns! I am just a beginning keyboard learner but I can play most of these songs. And I can't find many of them anywhere else. If you like the really old-time hymns, you will probably love this book.

To travel back in time to an interesting period in history : when camp meetings were still pure and uplifting !! On the one hand this booklet is good to have as a treasure from old times on the other hand it provides the information - very clearly - based on which you yourself can relive those old times. I really treasuere this book and its contents and is more than recommendable !!!

Received quickly in really good condition. Cute little book with easy to play melodies/hymns. Some old familiar friends and a few new ones too. I like the 'back story' about the publication dates and recordings of each song. Nice added extra history.

Good old hymns everybody ought to love and sing again in church and at home.

The content was good, and my elderly mother enjoyed it greatly. The book would be much easier to read if it were a bit larger and text was spread out more and clearer; however, I would still recommend the book for the content.

I so enjoyed reading Marie E Bast’s novel – don’t let the size deter you; it packs a lot of punch! Little Jacob Brenneman unknowingly starts the spark between his father Caleb and the widow Sarah Gingerich. But there are hurdles to overcome, and the author poignantly points out the differences between Old Order and New Order Amish beliefs. Can Sarah leave the bakery she inherited from her father? Who will bake those delicious iced cinnamon rolls? Sarah’s brother Turner as well as Bishop Yoder both add to Sarah’s dilemmas.This is an entertaining read!I received this book from the author and was under no obligation to write a review.

Read this sweet book cover to cover on a snowy midwest day. Captured my interest instantly. I love stories that allow me to form images in my head. This was one of those book. Nicely written Marie Bast ! Thanks for taking me to Amish country for a few hours :)

This is a very well written book and keeps you turning the pages. If you like good clean fiction books grab this one. The way the author writes you feel like you are there. I really enjoyed this book.

What a delightful story about love with many twists and turns. Sarah Gingerich is an Amish widow who runs the Amish Sweet Delights bakery in Kalona, Iowa. The bakery was started by her father and all the recipes were passed down by word of mouth. She loves running the bakery but wishes to have children which she did not have when she was married. But widower Caleb Brenneman has two children and there is mutual attraction, but one big thing holds them apart. She is part of the Older Order Amish and Caleb is New Order Amish, whose members do not marry. The journey is bumpy for these two in beliefs and the children, who are still grieving their mother, add more difficulty. Marie Bast takes us along on their journey and keeps us wondering how the two will make this work, until nearly the last page. The real challenge in this book is not to reach for a pastry as you read each chapter!

About the Author

Lee Gurga was born and raised in Chicago, and currently lives in Lincoln, Illinois with wife Jan, sons Ben, A.J., and Alex, dog Fay, and five haflinger horses. He first became interested in haiku in 1966, but he did not start publishing until 1987. He was soon receiving awards for his haiku, and High/Coo Press published his first collection, a mouse pours out, in 1988. In 1992 he was co-editor of Midwest Haiku Anthology (with Randy Brooks). Gurga has received first place in a number of haiku competitions. In 1998 he was honored with an Illinois Arts Council Poetry Fellowship for his work in haiku. He is currently associate editor of Modern Haiku, the longest-running journal of haiku and haiku studies in English. An active member of the Haiku Society of America, he served as Vice-president in 1991 and again in 1995-96, and served as President in 1997. As a leader of HSA he was instrumental in organizing an International Haiku Conference in Chicago in 1995, and in 1997 he led a delegation of prominent English language haiku poets and editors to the second Joint Conference in Tokyo. He is currently editor of Modern Haiku, the longest-running journal of haiku and haiku studies in English . He is also poetry editor for Illinois Times and haiku columnist for Solares Hill newspaper (Key West, Florida).

That means that the verbs used are likely to be in the form of either the simple present-tense (e.g. runs, paints, fishes, etc.) or participle (e.g. running, painting, fishing, etc).Well, apparently there is no set rule about which to use, but here is an example of what the use of the participle will allow:One of my own (not necessarily good) haiku used as an example:a garden ponddrawing the moon outfrom behind a cloudThe use of drawing allows that it can be read as any of these: "a garden pond [is] drawing" or "...[was] drawing," or even "...[will be] drawing."Using the participial form provides the haiku with a versatility or flexibility with regard to the dimension of time.Here's what it would be using the simple present tense form:a garden ponddraws the moon outfrom behind a cloudThe versatility that the participle provided is gone, but it also may be true that this version rings more pleasurably to the ear.Well, anyway he speaks about that in his book and I just appreciated that he addressed that point; no other haiku book that I have ever read had ever done so.(By the way, if you are interested in reading about this particular point for yourself it is to be found starting on page 79 in the "Haiku Grammar" section.)***In conclusion:The author thoroughly fills you in about haiku's origins, evolution and its future.There are many examples of successful haiku from many of today's practicing haiku poets included with valuable analysis for each.This is a very worthwhile book for becoming acquainted with the haiku verse form and I could find no fault with it.I heartily recommend it to you.

I haven't even completed the book, but find it extremely helpful in breaking down strategies for writing publishable haiku. It provides before and after examples, and clear examples supporting each strategy. Easy to read, I'm sure I'll have dog-eared corners soon. A must on every haiku writer's shelf.

As a haiku newbie, I had many questions. What makes great haiku, how to read haiku, what's the deal with syllables, etc. Haiku: A Poet's Guide answers them all and then some.It goes into the subtle (and not so subtle) differences between true haiku and what passes for haiku, the differences between haiku, senryu and zappai, and many other distinctions. I had no idea haiku could be so intricate. And beautiful. This book is a gateway to a life long pursuit.After reading this book once, I feel like I'm on the right path. I'll need to read it several times, though, if I'm going to write and critique my own "truthfulness" haiku (see page 133). Right now, I'm just taking it one haiku moment at a time.Yesterday it was 70 degrees. Today, 20 with the wind chill factor and snowing. I wrote...flowers awaitthe death of wintera full time jobLots of room for improvement, I'm sure, but a satisfying moment for me. Thanks to this book.

I have recently begun writing haiku not knowing much about it except it was a three line poem and it used a 5/7/5 syllable format. What I did not know was the history of haiku, the rules of writing and the development from Japanese to English language. I read a lot of information off the net but then I found this book which really tells you all you need to know about haiku, before you start to write them yourself. It not only gives historical background and explains the problem of syllables but tells you a great deal about the background rules and attitudes that inform the poem, if it can really be called a poem.I really recommend this to anyone, who wants to know about haiku and its past and curent history, but realise that you may find it a life changing experience

This is a terrific book on haiku. It was recommended to me and it sure didn't disappoint.

Of all my books on writing and studying haiku, this is by far my favorite. It is thorough, accurate, and very accesible for writers new to haiku. Haiku can be intimidating given all the "rules" for such a small piece of writing, but Gurga's kind approach to the reader encourages those new to the genre who want to honor it and yet begin the journey, to do just that. I really respect Gurga's advice.

This is one of the best guides available to the multi-layered art of writing haiku and understanding the many differences between an ordinary three line poem and a haiku that ticks many of the 'invisible boxes' that make this form of poetry unlike any other.
