I have been elected as President of our newly formed community association which is my first homeowners association. I wanted to start us off on the right foot by conducting business properly. This book has given me a great amount of information which ensures we will protect the homeowners rights. I now have a good understanding of the responsibilities of the board of directors to the association members, how to provide notice of meetings, create a basic agenda for those meetings, and many other admin functions I was unaware of. Of course this is not a cookie cutter "one size fits all" manual but in the areas that is not applicable to our association, I was able to use the concept from the book to modify items to fit our association. Well, at least I know how to bring it to the members for a vote. I will refer to this book many times in the future and I have already started highlighting items of importance. It also contains many templates for forms and documents YOU WILL need. If your association isn't using these as a minimum, you need to get them to start using something like these templates. It is such an easy way to keep ALL members informed so the board of directors doesn't seem like it is more important than the members it works for. You should read this book if you belong to a homeowners association. If you're on the board or want to be an active member in the association you MUST read this book.

Good basic information. The forms in the back were the most beneficial. Didn't address concerns about management company we currently have.

If you are contemplating buying a home that has a home owners association, being a board member, or are already live in a HOA, this book is a good starting point to understanding what's going on. It's not state specific nor is it specific to your HOA (which will be directed by your CC&R and bylaws), but it will give you enough information that you will have a basic understanding of the concept and your rights and responsibilities. I can't say I learned a lot, but there was enough new things in it that it was worth buying.

As a member of our homeowners association for the past four years and now recently elected president I felt I needed some substantial guidelines for helping our group move forward. This book was everything I expected and more. I have gone from chapter to chapter and back again reviewing each aspect of governing a homeowners association. Each time I learned something more specific. I highly recommend this book to any member of an association, regardless of whether you are an officer or just a homeowner. It will help you to understand the rules of "living together".

I am the current president of our HOA and I have found this book very helpful. I try to read through it or just flip through about every other month or so. If you are on the board of directors you do want this as a resource too.//Chuck

helpful for learning the board members role

I am a newly elected President of my HOA Board. Reading this book has helped me to better underdstand the procedures in conducting an HOA meeting. My HOA is small in size so I will not need to utilize all of the information that is included in this book, but it was nice to educate myself on the porcedures as a whole.

This book is for those HOA who really don't know the in's and outs of the association. Covers everything you need to know about organizing your HOA. I would recommend this book if you are interested in knowing what the HOA should be doing in your neighborhood. How much of a fee should you pay and why? How is the decision made on what to charge?

If you are looking for an honest review of this product then you are in the right place. I received this map just a few days ago to replace my new one and I can honestly say that this map is perfect. It comes laminated out of the box so don't expect it to be ripping on you anytime soon. Not only is the durability of the map impressive the actual image of the map is very sharp. The colors have a good contrast and overall brightness is just where it needs to be. Another thing of note would be that this map has a peculiar black outline added to it. I personally think it has a cool "frame" look to it and appreciate it as a refining contribution to the appearance. One thing that all should note is that it is quite a big map, so you should definitely make sure there is space for it. Overall, as I'm sure this review has made clear, this map is of perfect quality for anyone who wants a durable, large, and colorful map for there viewing pleasure.

****UPDATE: I received several responses to my question and the Traditional map sold by Amazon IS laminated. I ordered it and it just came in the mail yesterday and it IS laminated! It is on my wall right now. AMAZON--PLEASE TAKE OFF THE BASIC SIZE TUBED MAP OPTION FROM OTHER SELLERS FROM THIS LISTING. IT IS NOT LAMINATED AND IT WILL ONLY CONFUSE BUYERS.I repeat to all prospective buyers--DO NOT BUY THIS MAP FROM THE OTHER SELLER ON THIS LISTING. The title on my Amazon search page said "World Decorator Wall Map Laminated". I clicked on it and the product page listed 3 buying options--an enlarged map sold by Amazon, a basic map sold by Maps, Globes, and More, and a Traditional map (same size as basic map) sold by Amazon. I ordered the basic map from Maps, Globes, and More because even with shipping, it was a couple dollars cheaper than the one sold by Amazon. However, when I received my map, it was NOT laminated. In fact, I tore an inch on one side very easily as I was taking off the packaging. I went back and noticed that the product description for the one sold from Maps, Globes, and More did not mention "laminated", while the ones sold by Amazon, did. The seller contacted me and we agreed on a partial refund since the map was torn and so I didn't have to pay to ship it back. But I still want a laminated map.Can anyone tell me if the Traditional (31" x 46") map sold by Amazon is indeed laminated? Meaning, layered in plastic so you can not tear it? I bought it to put on our kitchen wall that I will use for homeschooling my young children. I do not want a map that can be ripped. I was having a hard time finding a large map that will fit on my wall (it must be less than 48" wide). Just wanted to know if I could buy the Amazon version or if I would need to find an entirely different map altogether. Thanks so much!

Beautiful map, came rolled in perfect condition. color are vibrant and text is clear. Was looking for a more accurate map than the mercator spread and this does a decent job. the lamination makes it wipable with a whiteboard marker, or stickers, which i decided to go for as I didn't want to stab this beautiful piece with tacks. The border makes it feel very finished and wall ready. My son loves it.

I’m very happy with my large laminated National Geographic world map. When I first received the map in a rolled tube container, I found when I pulled it the map out that there were long vertical lines across the middle of the entire map both sides. I thought perhaps the map simply needed to stretch out, but by the next day with no improvement I decided to contact the seller. I took a photo of each side of the map and then I wrote a very short email to the seller, which was Reference Resources, in my case, and I emailed it. I figured the photos would speak for themselves. I received the map on a Saturday, sent the email Sunday, and by Monday morning I had received email from the seller who apologized. He wrote that it appears that the tube and been crushed during the shipping process and he had already packed up a new replacement map and it would be mailed out later that day. Two days later I received a map in pristine condition and I could not be more happy.I also wanted to mention how I decided to hang my map on the wall. I initially had thought I my use some kind of tape or Velcro on the map and also some on the wall, but what I finally settled with was an 8-pack of magnettacks or magnet tacks. You use one of the push-pins to push the pin into whatever surface (mine was drywall) and at the head of the push-pin is a strong magnet. Next grab a separate magnet and place it on top of the push-pin and then you have a strong hold. The map is held between the push-pin magnetic head of the push pin (you are not sticking the pin through the map!) and then you add the separate magnetic to hold the map in place. You receive 8 push-pins and 8 magnetic pieces (Honestly, I think it’s best if you just look it up rather than having me try to explain it.) In the end, these push-pins held my map up perfectly and I didn’t dashed the map in any way. I hope that helps.

Very informative, basic history book. Easy to read, not too much detail. I use it to teach my ESL students a little history in preparation for the US citizenship test.

well done

I am an 8th grade teacher and this is on my summer reading list for incoming students. They get to choose between this and two Albert Marrin books on Washington and Lincoln. This book is the favorite of my students, in part because it is shorter and more readable than the other two. I find it dificult to find exceptional biographies for Middle School readers. They are not ready for adult books, but most of the children's biographies have a target age of 9-12. This is ideal for them, and I enjoyed it as well.
