This is a very nice slim treatise on a very disturbing subject, the Biafran War. This is a class ic African conflict where one tribe tries to break free of oppression, taking with it natural wealth, from another controlling tribe and is nearly wiped out with guns, bombs and starvation! The mother country is supported heavily by a European power wanting the oil, the other is supported by few. The outcome is sadly obvious, Biafra loses! Nigeria wins, BP wins!! This book goes in a few pages, deep into the problems of not only Nigeria but of Africa on the whole. The tribal/clan wars that result from the decolonization are frequent and bloody. Usually leaving the strongest but not the wisest in power much to the detriment of everyone except the 1% in charge! The pictures are many and some never seen. I really like this whole series because like the Osprey books, you get a lot of information on subjects at a cheap price. I have several books on Biafra and mercenaries in Africa and am pleased with this book as an addition to my library

I enjoyed this, would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Good photographs and breaks down the politics fairly well. I felt it was a little light on describing equipment, organization and military operations...I was hoping for more nuts and bolts. I love the "Africa @ War" series and wanted to love this volume. It was good but left me a little underwhelmed.

Though his writing is direct and brightly worded, there are also hints and shadows that require the reader to read between the lines and to be alert and discerning in order to capture the full impact of his brilliant writing.

My only problem with this book is that it is sometimes too painful and I became apprehensive about each new story. Would the main character be killed? So it's a painful but very engrossing read. And it doesn't always end badly

I thought that this was a novel. Turns out to be a collection of short stories. Each one just as good as the last. Each story focuses on the interrelationships between Blacks and Whites during the Harlem Renaissance era.Many stories have a theme of well intentioned Whites inadvertently being offensive. It's not a race bashing book, rather a sociological perspective of race relations in the early 20th century.

Stories of black and white folks who lived in the 1920s and 30s. Surprising plots and stories, unusual characters. Langston Hughes is one of the best writers of the 20th century. You must read his stories and poems. His ability to grab the reader and not let go is astounding. His characters are real and compelling. Don't miss this.

This book was a great read for any African American. The last story was gut wrenching but accurately described tensions during that time. I highly recommend this book for anyone. Know your history so you can better know your future.

Wish there was reference to which release it used as model for content reference. It appears about 3 releases old, I probably would not have purchased it then.

A fantastic resource for those looking to pass the Administrator Certification exam. After going through all relevant trails and badges on Trailhead, I moved onto this book and then onto an online course (an inexpensive one). Will this book help you pass the test all by itself? No, but the information is fantastic and organized into the right categories. While this book was written for a previous release of Salesforce, it is still a relevant resource. A new version is scheduled to be released in February 2017 and I recommend picking that up once it is available.

I bought this book directly from Packt Publishing during one of their $5 dollar bonanza deals, along with a handful of other Salesforce related titles from administration topics to apex development.As another reviewer stated, this book is for beginners just learning Salesforce, "It is laid out very well so that you can almost start it and get hooked to this book for hours without feeling any overburden. Sometimes I feel it is a bit over-simplified, but what else would you want when you are starting. I skipped/glanced through a lot of sections since I know most of the areas."It doesn't go too deep into any particular topic, but for a beginner that may be a good thing because the platform is quite overwhelming at first due to breadth of what's available. The book does do a good job giving overviews of the various concepts and topics listed in the index. At first, I felt like this only repeated what the free Salesforce online help docs already provide, and it does do that to a large extent, but where it shines is in the screen shots. Even with 2 years of full time advanced administration under my belt, I thought the screen shots and the author's personal comments/tips were quite valuable -- insight you don't get with the online help docs. That is a plus!One bit of advice I liked was the author's common sense tip in the chapter about creating custom fields. Yes, Salesforce makes it very easy to add custom fields -- a reason we all love the platform -- but it's also easy to fall into the trap of creating lots of fields without considering the consequences. The author provides about 3-4 good paragraphs explaining the pros/cons and what to consider before creating a custom field. I thought the advice was so valuable I immediately shared it with the rest of my Salesforce dev team!All in all, the book gives a fair overview of the many areas of Salesforce and the author provides excellent screen shots to accompany the information (not found in the Salesforce online help docs) as well as provide his own advice and tips from real-world experience. If you've got the time, the ebook price is nice so I'd recommend you get a copy.

It will get you started for the exam, but if you really want to pass the exam - read this book + take all the online quizzes for the 201 exam

If I have to define it in few words then those would be - crisp, clear and content.

So what’s with the recent onslaught of grid quilting books?It’s a great way to compartmentalize your approach if you are new or overwhelmed. Grids provide a foundation, a starting point, and a path forward. They please the eye, and are amenable to both long arm and domestic machines.The best book on the topic so far is The Grid Design Workbook by Cindy Seitz-Krug. It is a beautiful publication with outstanding information, methods, examples, and tips. Find out why you should never leave your marked quilt in a hot car. Learn the importance of echo-quilting your main motifs.And try, just try, to choose only 1 favorite from the gallery photos. My vote - today - is for Cindy Needham’s “Life is Fragile … Handle With Prayer”. It is a black and white clamshell beauty whose lacy effects defy description and adequate breath intake.This inventive author uses both whole-cloth and pieced quilts throughout the book. In fact, the book is organized mostly by the grids that create the “blocks” of the whole-cloth quilt on the cover. I was looking all over the book to find a photo of that project in its entirety, getting quite frustrated despite viewing the drop-dead (but get up again) lovely examples and gallery shots. Hint: look near the very last page.Despite the fact that quilting books are getting shorter lately (yes, we’ve noticed this, just like we remember when canned tuna fish lost some weight), consider putting The Grid Design Workbook on your buy list. Or gift list.

This is even more useful than I had hoped. It only "wastes" 4 pages on tools and such and even those pages are half filled with useful pictures, and some good tips. I very much appreciate a book that only briefly discusses information that should already be known by the reader. The rest of the book? Absolutely wonderful! Beautiful and useful pictures - I especially like the side by side ones of using matching versus contrasting threads on the designs. Some of the work I already knew how to do, but I like her stitch sequencing much better!! I loved that she showed each stitch in multiple quilts. Overall, the perfect blend of inspiration and how to. And when I got to the end and was wishing she had put in grids for practicing some of it, there they were! I don't usually write book reviews, but I saw there were only 4 here, so I felt compelled to do so. I do not know the author and was not asked to do this. I paid advertised price. Just a happy customer.

I've read many, many quilting books and never reviewed any of them. This book is fantastic. Cindy is a great teacher. Explanations are simple, but completely explained and demonstrated. Pictures and diagrams complete the picture. But Cindy goes one step further by demonstrating what can go wrong when you don't follow directions. She really teaches you how to look at designs not in the book and simplify them to make them your own. Thanks much Cindy.

I have been elected as President of our newly formed community association which is my first homeowners association. I wanted to start us off on the right foot by conducting business properly. This book has given me a great amount of information which ensures we will protect the homeowners rights. I now have a good understanding of the responsibilities of the board of directors to the association members, how to provide notice of meetings, create a basic agenda for those meetings, and many other admin functions I was unaware of. Of course this is not a cookie cutter "one size fits all" manual but in the areas that is not applicable to our association, I was able to use the concept from the book to modify items to fit our association. Well, at least I know how to bring it to the members for a vote. I will refer to this book many times in the future and I have already started highlighting items of importance. It also contains many templates for forms and documents YOU WILL need. If your association isn't using these as a minimum, you need to get them to start using something like these templates. It is such an easy way to keep ALL members informed so the board of directors doesn't seem like it is more important than the members it works for. You should read this book if you belong to a homeowners association. If you're on the board or want to be an active member in the association you MUST read this book.

Good basic information. The forms in the back were the most beneficial. Didn't address concerns about management company we currently have.

If you are contemplating buying a home that has a home owners association, being a board member, or are already live in a HOA, this book is a good starting point to understanding what's going on. It's not state specific nor is it specific to your HOA (which will be directed by your CC&R and bylaws), but it will give you enough information that you will have a basic understanding of the concept and your rights and responsibilities. I can't say I learned a lot, but there was enough new things in it that it was worth buying.

As a member of our homeowners association for the past four years and now recently elected president I felt I needed some substantial guidelines for helping our group move forward. This book was everything I expected and more. I have gone from chapter to chapter and back again reviewing each aspect of governing a homeowners association. Each time I learned something more specific. I highly recommend this book to any member of an association, regardless of whether you are an officer or just a homeowner. It will help you to understand the rules of "living together".

I am the current president of our HOA and I have found this book very helpful. I try to read through it or just flip through about every other month or so. If you are on the board of directors you do want this as a resource too.//Chuck

I am a newly elected President of my HOA Board. Reading this book has helped me to better underdstand the procedures in conducting an HOA meeting. My HOA is small in size so I will not need to utilize all of the information that is included in this book, but it was nice to educate myself on the porcedures as a whole.

This book is for those HOA who really don't know the in's and outs of the association. Covers everything you need to know about organizing your HOA. I would recommend this book if you are interested in knowing what the HOA should be doing in your neighborhood. How much of a fee should you pay and why? How is the decision made on what to charge?

It comes laminated out of the box so don't expect it to be ripping on you anytime soon. Not only is the durability of the map impressive the actual image of the map is very sharp. The colors have a good contrast and overall brightness is just where it needs to be. Another thing of note would be that this map has a peculiar black outline added to it. I personally think it has a cool "frame" look to it and appreciate it as a refining contribution to the appearance. One thing that all should note is that it is quite a big map, so you should definitely make sure there is space for it. Overall, as I'm sure this review has made clear, this map is of perfect quality for anyone who wants a durable, large, and colorful map for there viewing pleasure.

I ordered the basic map from Maps, Globes, and More because even with shipping, it was a couple dollars cheaper than the one sold by Amazon. However, when I received my map, it was NOT laminated. In fact, I tore an inch on one side very easily as I was taking off the packaging. I went back and noticed that the product description for the one sold from Maps, Globes, and More did not mention "laminated", while the ones sold by Amazon, did. The seller contacted me and we agreed on a partial refund since the map was torn and so I didn't have to pay to ship it back. But I still want a laminated map.Can anyone tell me if the Traditional (31" x 46") map sold by Amazon is indeed laminated? Meaning, layered in plastic so you can not tear it? I bought it to put on our kitchen wall that I will use for homeschooling my young children. I do not want a map that can be ripped. I was having a hard time finding a large map that will fit on my wall (it must be less than 48" wide). Just wanted to know if I could buy the Amazon version or if I would need to find an entirely different map altogether. Thanks so much!

Beautiful map, came rolled in perfect condition. color are vibrant and text is clear. Was looking for a more accurate map than the mercator spread and this does a decent job. the lamination makes it wipable with a whiteboard marker, or stickers, which i decided to go for as I didn't want to stab this beautiful piece with tacks. The border makes it feel very finished and wall ready. My son loves it.

I’m very happy with my large laminated National Geographic world map. When I first received the map in a rolled tube container, I found when I pulled it the map out that there were long vertical lines across the middle of the entire map both sides. I thought perhaps the map simply needed to stretch out, but by the next day with no improvement I decided to contact the seller. I took a photo of each side of the map and then I wrote a very short email to the seller, which was Reference Resources, in my case, and I emailed it. I figured the photos would speak for themselves. I received the map on a Saturday, sent the email Sunday, and by Monday morning I had received email from the seller who apologized. He wrote that it appears that the tube and been crushed during the shipping process and he had already packed up a new replacement map and it would be mailed out later that day. Two days later I received a map in pristine condition and I could not be more happy.I also wanted to mention how I decided to hang my map on the wall. I initially had thought I my use some kind of tape or Velcro on the map and also some on the wall, but what I finally settled with was an 8-pack of magnettacks or magnet tacks. You use one of the push-pins to push the pin into whatever surface (mine was drywall) and at the head of the push-pin is a strong magnet. Next grab a separate magnet and place it on top of the push-pin and then you have a strong hold. The map is held between the push-pin magnetic head of the push pin (you are not sticking the pin through the map!) and then you add the separate magnetic to hold the map in place. You receive 8 push-pins and 8 magnetic pieces (Honestly, I think it’s best if you just look it up rather than having me try to explain it.) In the end, these push-pins held my map up perfectly and I didn’t dashed the map in any way. I hope that helps.

Very informative, basic history book. Easy to read, not too much detail. I use it to teach my ESL students a little history in preparation for the US citizenship test.

I am an 8th grade teacher and this is on my summer reading list for incoming students. They get to choose between this and two Albert Marrin books on Washington and Lincoln. This book is the favorite of my students, in part because it is shorter and more readable than the other two. I find it dificult to find exceptional biographies for Middle School readers. They are not ready for adult books, but most of the children's biographies have a target age of 9-12. This is ideal for them, and I enjoyed it as well.

Another amazing volume of Haikyu!!

V17 was the epic conclusion of the BLue Castle versus Karasuno October Miyagi Prefecutrals Spring Preliminaries Qualifier matches. The previous volume and the chapters in this chapter was a fantastic experience and one that made this entire match a fast page turner. Every page felt so well thought out and so intense. For awhile it was hard to cheer a team on. It was like I wanted to see Oikawa and the other third years get the chance to keep playing, but then I wanted Karasuno to have that chance as well. The backstory with Daichi, Sugawara, and Asahi spending the time seeing their senpai not make to the interhighs final rounds made me want to see them finally succeed. Then the first years on both teams, Kindaichi and Kunimi on Aoba Johsai, but then the terrible four on Karasuno, all wanting to not only do their best and win but to also make the dreams of their senpai come true was pretty good.The Teams have been pretty varied so far, we've had teams that centered their forces around one power player or ace, teams that center their strengths on each other but without tactics, and then we've had teams like Aoba Johsai who was tactically perfect and skillfully perfect. Service aces skillful smashes, epic spikes were all in top form and well represented. It was amazing. I loved how it kept Karasuno on their toes and no doubt helped to skill them up.The rest of the volume focused on the next match which will be detailed more in volume 18.Bonus included a bonus story focusing on the aftermath of Aoba Johsai. It felt like a full chapter and was so emotional and meaningful. I loved it and think it was definitely memorable.The usual in between chapters with content focus on sketches and players was present.

What a way to end 2016! Ponniyin Selvan, my first historical fiction book! This is the second book in the series. Such a beautiful story and wonderful characters! Can't wait to read the third book. The translator has done justice to the original writing. However, I believe nothing can equal the original; hence the 4 star rating.

Kalki's tale of Raja Raja Chola is famed among Tamizhs. Vandiyathevan, Kundhavai and Arulmozhi are household names. But the language barrier that kept me from accessing the great story just melted away. While the editing could be tighter (typos and repetition of paragraphs), the translation is true to the original modern epic, preserving with high fidelity not just some of the tamizh words but the cultural sense.

Best English translation I've found of Ponniyin Selvan. Can't wait for the remaining 3 books to be translated!

About the Author

Bhante Buddharakkhita was born and raised in Uganda, Africa. He first encountered Buddhism in 1990 while living in India, and he began practising meditation in 1993. His path then led him to found the Uganda Buddhist Centre in Uganda, East Africa in April 2005. Besides spending time and teaching there, he has been teaching meditation in Africa, Australia, Europe, Asia, and the United States since 2005. He is the spiritual director of Flowering Lotus Meditation Center in Magnolia, Mississippi. Bhante Buddharakkhita also serves on the council of advisers to Buddhist Global Relief in New York. He is the author of several books—Planting Dhamma Seeds: The Emergence of Buddhism in Africa, Sowing Seeds of Peace: Mindfulness Meditation for Finding Peace Within, Drop By Drop: The Buddha’s Path to True Happiness, and Caring for the Planet: Buddhism and Environment.
