Despite being frequently bashed and labeled as ''corporate rock'' Journey remains one of the most popular and recognizable bands of all time. They have sold countless albums and made songs that have stood the test of time, better then those of a lot of their more respectable peers. This greatest hits compilation is a testament to just how timeless the bands music really is.Even now as I write this review it is a best seller here on Amazon, a title it has held for months now and probably will hold for many more to come. You haters can snarl and grumble about how much you hate Journey all you want but there's no denying that few bands can match the seemingly eternal success of Journey. And that is a much greater indicator of how good a band they are then anything a snotty critic or narrow minded heavy metal fan can say.You may be wondering just what it is that has made songs like Don't Stop Believin and Faithfully relevant even today. Well I think the answer to that is that they speak to something we ALL have regardless of your age or place in life, the soul. Journey doesn't write about politics or drugs or any other controversial subject, instead of trying to garner respect by talking about the worlds problems they let their brilliantly crafted music speak to you. I dare you not to feel the the sense of pain and angst conveyed by Separate Ways or to feel lifted up and inspired by Only The Young, or have your heart warmed by the beautiful and emotional Open Arms. Steve Perry, Neal Schon, and Jonathan Cain are in my opinion great songwriters not because they remind us of things we know about, but because they make us feel things we weren't feeling before and that's a better indicator of good songwriting then copying down the late night news. And what is there to say about the band members themselves? Neal Schon is hands down one of the most underrated and proficient guitarists alive. The keyboard wizard Jonathan Cain can create some of the most beautiful and unforgettable piano melodies in the history of music. And who can forget the voice behind it all? Steve Perry has got to be one of the greatest singers of all time, signing every song with such heartfelt passion that you would think each one was an expression of his own feelings. And there are many more talented musicians that make their contribution to the music presented here, such as longtime bassist Ross Valory and the bands definitive drummer Steve Smith.Rather you are a Journey fan, or even just a fan of good music in general you should most certainly get this Greatest Hits collection from one of the greatest bands of all time. The music contained here is timeless and I have no doubt that if some of these were released today, they would be just as popular, if not more so, then they were when they first hit the air. Don't believe me? get this CD and you won't stop believin the same thing.

I have been a Journey fan for many years and have owned and loved this CD for years and recently purchased the reissued vinyl double LP of it. If you do purchase the vinyl of this album be aware that the reissues are thinner and flimsier material than older vinyls. The remastering sounded great and the vinyls played perfectly. Sadly the price of the vinyl version is so expensive at $28 when I bought it.Included on this album are hits from Journey's albums with lead singer Steve Perry only, not the new guy they've had the last few years. Journey without Steve, no thanks. Only a handful of songs from Steve's first few albums with Journey (Infinity, Evolution, and Departure) are featured including "Lights," "Wheel in the Sky," "Lovin Touchin Squeezin," and "Any Way You Want It." Most of the songs on this album are from Journey's most successful years with Steve during 1981-83 from the albums Escape, Frontiers, and various soundtrack contributions. Some of these songs include "Who's Cryin Now," "Open Arms," "Don't Stop," "Faithfully," "Send Her My Love," and "Separate Ways." In 1996, after a long hiatus and band member differences, they reunited briefly with Steve to record the album Trial By Fire and I love that the song "When You Love a Woman" from that album was included here. Sadly, that was Steve's last album with Journey due to him being fired after band displeasure over him not being able to tour because of a needed hip surgery. If you are a Journey fan during the Steve Perry era, this is an awesome collection of their best work on one album!

Killer album with many of the best Journey tracks. This is my new road trip soundtrack and you can count on my singing at the top if my lungs rolling down the road. Its a shame things fell apart between Steve Perry and the rest of the band because this album just stands to reinforce how very good they were and what high caliber music they created.

I had never heard of this rock band but knew they had to be good if some of their songs were Great. Man was I right. Most if not all of the songs have drums, piano and several guitars in them. The man has a really nice voice too it is very strong and he can sing very high musical notes. He is very very good and must have gotten a lot of girls in high school. Someday I hope to be just like him so I am starting my own rock and roll band and calling it Travel and then I will get a girlfriend and have great songs too. I need to buy a guitar and learn how to play it and learn how to sing high notes and then my band will be just like this one I hope. This rock music album has changed my life and I'm glad that I bought it. If you would like to be in my rock band please let me know.

I am a fan of a lot of '80s music, and Journey was a simply giant part of that landscape. As an amateur guitarist I am more a fan Neal Schon's consistently excellent and instantly recognizable guitar work than anything else, although most listeners will associate Journey more strongly with Steve Perry's vocals. Needless to say, this greatest hits CD is heavy on material from the monster album "Escape" ("Who's Crying Now," "Open Arms," and "Don’t Stop Believin'") though other albums are also represented here. The problem is, of course, that Journey produced a huge body of work and one CD is inadequate for anything but a very superficial treatment of such a long-lived band. I admit that there are songs here I am not fond of, but there are also songs here that I can't get enough of (mostly thanks to Schon.) For me the most appalling oversight is not having "Anytime" (from "Infinity") front and center in the collection, though everyone will have their own list of liked and disliked tracks. If you want a good introductory overview of Journey, "Greatest Hits" is a good fit for your '80s music collection.

Kate Remembered, by A. Scott Berg

Amazon.com Review

Published a mere 13 days after the death of Katharine Hepburn, Kate Remembered is best appreciated as a valentine of devoted friendship. It's a moving study of mutual trust and admiration between Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer A. Scott Berg and legendary Hollywood icon Hepburn, who'd established an instant rapport in 1983, beginning a 20-year conversation that blossomed into this enchanting "biographical memoir." As a casual but authoritative survey of Hepburn's career, Berg's book offers little new information to anyone who's read previous Hepburn biographies or Me: Stories of My Life, Hepburn's bestselling 1991 memoir. But the duality of Berg's title reinforces his purpose: "More than my remembrances," writes Berg in his author's note, "this book intends to convey hers." As such, Kate Remembered offers a rare, unvarnished portrait of one of the 20th century's most influential women, achieving a personal intimacy while making the reader feel welcomed in Hepburn's private world of privilege. Although Berg (the acclaimed biographer of legendary editor Max Perkins, producer/mogul Samuel Goldwyn, and aviator Charles Lindbergh) had written all but the final paragraphs by 2001, Hepburn insisted this book remain unpublished until after her death, which came, in quiet dignity at age 96, on June 29, 2003. Given the book's pre-publication secrecy, it's hardly tabloid-worthy, serving instead to correct or clarify details from Hepburn's glory days--especially her long-term affair with Spencer Tracy--while offering choice bits of Hollywood gossip, Hepburn's frequently scathing assessments of other actors, and amusing encounters with such luminaries as Michael Jackson and Warren Beatty (both of whom appear as mock suitors with selfish motivations). It's a brisk read but a substantial one, richly emotional and as dignified as Hepburn herself, whose faults and foibles make her even more appealing than her beloved public persona. --Jeff Shannon

From Publishers Weekly

Even those who've read many Hepburn biographies will find Berg's immersion in the actor's world engrossing, full of crisply-voiced takes on old Hollywood and intimate looks at her everyday life. As a longtime friend and ardent fan, Berg (Lindbergh; Max Perkins; etc.) does not attempt an objective biography; instead, he aims to convey Hepburn's thoughts and memories. Framed by Berg and Hepburn's 20-year friendship, the book charts the inescapable subjects of Hepburn's life, such as her romance with Spencer Tracy and her assessment of her own performances. She considered Tracy the greatest American screen actor and her last years with him (in the 1960s) the happiest of her life. Among her movies, she spoke warmly of her films with George Cukor. As to Hepburn's sexual orientation, Berg notes that in the 1930s she lived with actress Laura Harding and decades later was rumored to have exceptionally close relations with a woman, but Hepburn reported nothing. Most interesting is Berg's depiction of Hepburn's early acting days: how she moved from Broadway to Hollywood, negotiated an outsized salary, and, after becoming box-office poison, fought her way back with The Philadelphia Story. Throughout those years, she was befriended personally and professionally by her husband Ludlow Ogden Smith and by industrialist Howard Hughes. Berg is true to his subject and lets her voice come through in every quote, whether she's pooh-poohing him for thinking the 50-ish-degree water near her Connecticut house is cold ("Only for the first few seconds. And then you're numb") or explaining why she never tried to marry Spencer Tracy: "I never wanted to marry Spencer Tracy." Photos. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc.

she was a character, at least it seems to me she was a bit self centered.. but most actors are.. they dont make the best of friends, that is not meant to be a judgement, only an observation, its the nature of their craft.... its a good read and great for bedtime, travel or lying on the beach.. gave me a look at a beautiful talented woman, and how she live. at times funny, odd, and sad. another honest look by berg.

A reminiscence of Berg's long friendship and occasional collaboration with the great actress. The best parts consist of insights into Kate's character and career, along with her long relationship with Spencer Tracy. Even at that, Kate's own autobiography covers much of the same ground. The least interesting parts of the book deal with Berg's own life and career, which take up far too much space. After all, it's called Kate Remembered.

As always, A Scott Berg writes a thoroughly delightful book. Rich with detail, short on judgement. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

I can't say I always took an interest in Katharine Hepburn. I enjoyed some of her movies: On Golden Pond, Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner, The Lion in Winter and The African Queen to name a few. But I don't believe I saw any of her earlier movies such as Philideplhia Story, Adam's Rib or the many others that made up her lengthy and heralded career. I took an intrest in her during a conversation I had back in the mid-1980's with an old friend, Cynthia McFadden. Yes, THAT Cynthia McFadden of ABC News fame.At that time she had graduated from Bowdoin College with all of the academic honors one could receive as well as Columbia University Law School and was working for Fred Friendly's Media and Society Seminars as Executive Producer. During that conversation she told me how she had been "essentially adopted" by Katharine Hepburn and how she had become a big part of Ms. Hepburn's life. All very heady stuff for a young woman from Auburn, Maine.I hoped that Scott Berg's tribute to his friend Katharine Hepburn would give me an insight into the life she was leading during the time Cindy came to know her and some insight into her past as well. I was not disappointed. This is an emminently readable and lovingly crafted tribute to a dear friend. You are priviy to many conversations between author and subject to the point of where you feel you are evesdropping. You learn about her foibles, her fears, her philosophy of life and you do so in a most direct and interesting way. I found the book hard to put down and at the conclusion, felt that I had indeed known Katharine Hepburn. I dare say you will also. She is a most intriguing friend.

I really must take issue with the reviewer who said this book is as much about A. Scott Berg as it is Katharine Hepburn. I surely did not get that at all. What I did find it to be was an insider's peek at the life of an aging icon, and to my surprise I found she hadn't been as closeted and hidden away as I always assumed she was. Several key people lured her out of her lair in Manhattan's Turtle Bay area on Forty Ninth street; Cynthia McFadden and Scott Berg for two. When I read that she was fascinated by Michael Jackson and even went to see his concert!! (Who can imagine that old head bobbing away to Beat-It!???) Then to find out he really only wanted to meet her to get introduced to Garbo. The impertinence! Yes, she was bossy, yes she was overbearing, but I think she must have been terribly interesting, and Berg shows she wasn't as aloof as she seemed. She was a lonely old woman who could be approached if courted properly. After all, I'm sure she had her share of users. I really liked this book. I liked Berg's style enough to order his other books. I recommend it. To me, only enough of Berg's life was included as to frame the timeframes of his being out of NY unless they directly involved Hepburn and himself.

I don't understand why alot of critics don't like this book. I LOVED it and while your reading it you can almost hear the words being told in her voice.I'm from Connecticut and spend a great deal of my summer time down in Old Saybrook so maybe i'm looking at this book from that point of view. She was a wonderful, loving, kind, and very generous women. She kept her life private which i believe all people should do anyway. She was a wonderful actress and had affairs with great leading men. What more could you want in an icon like Kate. This book is worth every penny and i know we all miss her.

Enjoyed the bio of Katherine Hepburn. Felt like a conversation with the author who knew her and spent many years as her friend.

Kelly Wearstler is confident enough in her design ability that she tries to challenge herself with going in new directions pretty often. She has defintely proved with this book and her design work for Viceroys Anguilla and Snowmass that she is not a one-Hollywood Regency-trick pony. She has to be commended for not doing years of the same interiors. This book is great as an inspiration piece. I have been overwhelmingly inspired by her work. That said, because Kelly's aesthetic is so layered and textured, it would have been great for her to talk about some of the specific treatments. For example, are all of the wallpapers custom? What was her inspiration for the color and design of the wallpapers? What was the overall feel or direction she was going for when designing her house? How did she select the artwork? Are the furniture pieces high and low or all high end (okay, so they are all high end)? It would be great to get inside her head a little bit.But it seems like most people will probably never have the opportunity to examine her design process with any degree of satisfaction. And I say that only because Kelly Wearstler has turned into a major brand with product extensions all over the place. Brands don't like to be controversial and they don't like to reveal too much about themselves to keep the mystique and fantasy going. I could be wrong, just a feeling.I mean, sure Kelly's in this book with her kids, but it is all about creating a fantasy of having it all: personal beauty, stunning interiors, great kids, a house that has movie star lineage, an awesome wardrobe, glamour and above all wealth. I think she's very smart and media savvy to do it; her books are basically brochures she gets paid for creating. However, I wish there could be a discussion of her work on a deeper level.I do also wish that she would showcase more homes of people with wealth lesser than hers. Her average client is probably not as adventurous either I bet. I'm curious to see what that would look like, but maybe she is too busy to do a lot of residential because she has so many spinning plates?

I liked this one! :) Between this one and Dominicilium Decoratus, I think is her best. The latest one, (Rhapsody), is so-so. I have the very 1st one, Modern something, and that's a good one too. When I'm in the mood for a Kelly Wearstler book, I usually go for this one first. Lots of great ideas and colors, (even if you feel, I don't think my home can look like this), at least you can get some bits and pieces of ideas. Overall, I think this was a great buy! I love amazon, otherwise, if I were to get it anywhere else, I probably wouldn't get a big, thick, heavy book like this. :)

I love leafing through this book when I need a pick-me-up. It's jazzy and bright and unapologetic. I love color and I love this book. I only wish I could replicate the results shown here, but my budget won't allow such grandeur. So I rely on this book to transport me to truly magical places.

good

Have we read this book?NoDoes my wife think it looks good on the shelf?YesIt is serving its purpose.

Not the best book for realistic inspiration for your next interior project.Very eccentric for my taste and I like living outside of the creative box.Buy this one after you have all the others on your list.Nice photography. The shots with Kelly & her boys seem too staged.I'm going to return my copy. I don't think I'll ever feel the need to flip through it again.

I am a huge fan of Wearstler's irreverent, colorful design, but this book was a serious letdown. For a tome titled "Hue", she was hardly creative with real color. The fabric cover itself is just white! The entire book is just 12 rooms or so shot from different angles to highlight a particular artifact in a particular color. Worst of all, she used the same books and artifacts over and over. The glamor shots of her and her sons were out of place and the spread of her jewelry and shoe collections were quite self-indulgent. While text in a design book is often superfluous, hers is limited to an "interview" at the beginning without any real discussion of the rooms presented. Don't waste your money on this one.

Each of Kelly Wearstlers books has been beautiful and inspiring , once again HUE has done the same. This book offers an exciting way to look at and to remind us to use more COLOR! Each page is a visual treat layered with great design ideas and unique artwork with a fabulous sneak peek into the authors life. LOVE IT!
